I have Trichotillomania, Will Hair Extensions Work for Me?
When it comes to hair extensions, many people think their only use is taking short hair and making it longer. Here at LDL, however, we know better than anyone that this simply isn’t true.
Our hair extensions work for people with all types of hair, including those who are experiencing thinning of any kind! Case in point: clients with Trichotillomania. For people who live with this condition, their hair often becomes very thin and sometimes comes out in patches. As most women can imagine, this can be hard to deal with.
Fortunately, LDL has worked with dozens of clients with this condition over the years, helping them get their confidence back. It’s one of the best, most rewarding parts of what we do, so we thought we’d tell you a bit more about it…
So, what is Trichotillomania?
For those of you who may not know, Trichotillomania – or ‘Trich’ for short – is a hair-pulling disorder. People who live with this condition often feel overwhelming urges to pull out their hair – usually from their scalp but also from their eyebrows and other areas of the body where hair grows.
Because of this, many people with Trich have visibly patchy hair, which often effects their confidence. This is why LDL is proud to offer our virgin, Caucasian extensions to clients living with Trich – because we have seen first-hand that it allows them to feel like their old selves again.
Wait… if I have little to no hair, how will you install the extensions?
This is the most common question we get when someone with Trich calls us about getting extensions. And it’s a good one, too because if you have barely any hair on certain parts of your scalp, how could extensions possibly attach to your head?
The answer varies from client to client, as it does depend on how much hair you have and your specific situation. There are a few different ways that we give you the hair you’ve always wanted (or the hair you once had). One option is by using our unique installation method, which is incredibly gentle on your real locks to avoid any further damage. In fact, it can even help your existing locks grow healthier and stronger over time, as your weft will act as a barrier to protect it.
Another possibility is using a top piece, which is made from the exact type of gorgeous Virgin hair as our wefts. These are simply designed to sit on the head to disguise any areas where severe hair loss has left bald patches.
For many clients, we use a combination of these two methods to achieve a flawless, natural look. Just take a look at those before and after photos – they speak for themselves!
What if I pull the extensions out?
As Trich is a hair pulling condition, it’s understandable that some clients may be worried they’ll pull out the hair from the extensions. While we can’t speak for every client, we have certainly found that many people tend to pull their hair less while wearing the extensions. This is simply because their natural hair is behind the extensions and therefore harder to get to.
As for our extensions, they are some of the most durable and long-lasting available. Most of our Trich clients have had no trouble at all while wearing them, meaning they can enjoy the incredible feeling of having luscious hair once again!
If you are living with Trichotillomania and wish you could get back the gorgeous hair you once had (or always wanted), LDL can help you do just that.
